Affermative Action essays

Affermative Action essays Affirmative Action? A major controversy encompassing the country is the issue of affirmative action. Many believe that the abolition, or at least restructure, of affirmative action in the United States will benefit the nation for many logical reasons. Originally, affirmative action began as an attempt to eliminate discrimination and provide a source of opportunity; affirmative action did not begin as an attempt to support just minorities and women. In addition, affirmative action naturally creates resentment when the less qualified are preferred instead of the people actually deserve the admission or job. Another reason that has existed since the abolition of slavery is the myth that women and 'minorities? cannot compete against white males without receiving special preference or treatment. Money used for the support and continuance of affirmative action cost in excess of 125 million dollars annually. Important programs in the country may benefit from the money received by affirmativ e action bureaucrats. Most importantly, the fundamentals of democracy rest on the equality of all people, whereas affirmative action is actually trying to give minorities and women higher status of importance than Caucasians. If the policies of affirmative action end, then the nation can return to its original equal opportunity policies. The original founders of the Civil Rights Act intended for all people, including majorities and minorities, to receive equal opportunities for education and job positions. Presently, in today's economic system, companies and businesses offering job positions have to meet quotas and statistics proving that they are not discriminating against one race or gender for another. For example, a software company is hiring a new graphics designer to assist in drawing and the creation of graphics. This type of job requires experience and expertise to succeed. There are three applicants for the job offering. One applicant is a white ma...

Essay Plan Mhmi

Essay Plan Mhmi Essay Plan Mhmi Outline project To achieve this MHMI higher, I reviewed a case study based on a family dealing with a member suspected of developing dementia. To finish this project successfully I produced a plan, researched information on legislation, attitudes and provision relevant to dementia and completed course units. I developed and structured my work and produced a report that helped me understand the family’s feelings and needs. 64 Review the case study including: Plan This planning was effective in relation to the timescale as I was able to set out deadlines and pace myself ensuring I had time to reflect. However after class discussion the deadlines were revised. My work was completed and on time: to the first timescale. This gave me extra time to review my work and change if I felt I could enhance my report. Aims and objectives were done to enable me to pass the higher; however I did find this section interesting and made me think how I would actually achieve my aim instead of it being an automatic action, common sense really. I feel I met all my aims and objectives apart from book research as it was too easy to gather information from the internet also interviews were very informative. Research based report This section gave me a greater understanding of what provisions were available through community care and how this has enhanced lives. How the service user is center focus. Legislation on the other hand was difficult to grasp re government documents however several sites offered the information in â€Å"Layman’s terms† allowing the general public a good understanding of the mental health acts, and benefits available. Public attitude has changed but feel it needs to come a long way yet after reading reports through my internet searches. Was happy to see how many high profile individuals are highlighting dementia; to one day this will be spoken of as cancer is. Resource’s in this subject was overwhelming to the fact you felt you were drowning in formation so was hard to pinpoint the most relevant. Through this section I was a little confused with referencing the internet. Case study report Being Robert was easy, I spoke to my father regarding his emotions and thoughts, his acceptance or not that my grandmother was showing signs of dementia. However the CPN was more like going through a tick list after discussion with a former CPN for me this was a detached role. After spending the past year at college gaining an in-depth knowledge of care and the needs of individuals with dementia I am quite confident I fulfilled Mary and Jacks needs both physically and emotionally. During In placement I was able to observe individuals in first stages of dementia this improved my understanding on a basic level e.g. from one week to the next this lady had forgot whether she liked tea or coffee, on a cold day she came in without a jacket then when she left she couldn’t understand why she would of left without a jacket. Yes this experience helped with case study. Conclusions and recommendations (Exam) Was apprehensive prior to the exam, had enough information in my 200 words. However once the exam started with my gained knowledge over the past year and the key words I felt I was confident with the work I produced. I was very aware of the time scale and hoped I would have enough time to complete. The word count for the exam put me under tremendous pressure and this effected my concentration as was so frightened I didn’t go over and fail. I feel this was undue pressure as within a 2 hour period you could only write so much. I answered this question previously and kept my word count down and practiced handwriting this a few times to get my speed up. I would recommend

What Makes for Effective Interviews Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

What Makes for Effective Interviews - Essay Example Good listening skills are the key to good communication and play an effective role in understanding the job requirements and applicants’ proficiencies related to the job. The interviewing process can be divided into three steps that are planning, the interview itself and recording of results. All these steps are crucial to make an interview effective. The interviewee should not be threatened and a relaxed environment should be created in order to receive positive feedback from the interviewee. Training should be provided for teaching the interviewers to take care of all stages of interview. The interview questions are required to be planned directly related to the knowledge, skills, and abilities required in a selection process. In addition, the interviewer should ask himself about a number of questions related to conducting an interview session such as â€Å"how long is it going to last?†, â€Å"When?†, â€Å"How many people are to be interviewed?†, †Å"What should be recorded?† and so on. Following the welcome courtesies, the interviewer should inform the candidate something about the organization, the job and how the two fit together. Questions should not be only from the interviewer’s side but also from the interviewee’s side in order to have a productive discussion. While conducting an interview, there should be no discrimination of any kind as it makes the interviewer to decide incorrectly about the job and the candidate. The interviewer should be neutral and should show an unbiased approach towards all candidates of the interview. His attitude should be encouraging so that both, the interviewer and interview can talk in a comfortable environment. It can be said that for conducting effective interviews, the interviewers require training, they should make use of good communication skills, they should do planning, they must be accommodative and should be unprejudiced. What Makes for Effective Interviews? In terviews are required at a number of occasions such as selection procedure of applicants for a specific job, for training of specific personnel, for appraising someone for promotion and much more. In all kinds of interviewing, the interviewer works as the authority and his job is to conduct such an interview that results in some outcome and is not just an activity without any output. The decision of a process is based on an effective interview. Communication is essential in all formal and informal professional gatherings, as without communication, there can be no success (Schockley-Zalabak, 2011). Similarly, communication is also required in interviewing, as interview is a communicative activity. For effective interviewing, the interviewer is required to make use of effective communication skills as without good communication skills, a person cannot be interviewed successfully. Interviews are a source of judgment of interviewees and this judgment can be faulty if the interviewer is unable to analyze the appropriateness of the candidate regarding a job. Communication is essential, as it is because of communication that an interviewer gets the chance to evaluate a person’s suitability for the advertised job (Dipboye, et al., 2010). The communication process that is part of an interview should not be restricted and complex. The interview should be facilitated with opportunities to express himself and his thoughts regarding a question asked by the interviewer. In addition, the i

Finance - Audit and Assurance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words

Finance - Audit and Assurance - Essay Example Thus, this difference in the interest of the auditors and the clients makes it tough for the auditors to remain ethical while dealing with the clients (Rennie & et. al., 2006). Accountancy and auditing have been referred as complicated as well as practical procedures. In comparison to these characteristics, ethics could be considered to be far less complicated. Ethics can be described to be the honest, loyal, truthful and reliable way of performing an action. It is considered to be significantly important for auditors to perform their actions and their ways of working in an ethical manner. Ethics is required to be paid attention in case of auditing for the reason of reducing risk with regard to grave illegal actions (Campbell & Houghton, 2005). Auditing is concerned with dealing with financial statements and accounts of an organisation. Therefore, this process needs adequate compliance with ethical manners or specification. This is important as this would help to keep away the audito r from getting involved into any kind of legal liabilities or earn a bad reputation (Campbell, 2004). Unethical dealing by an auditing firm named Arthur Andersen gave rise to the scandal of Enron who was one of the firm’s client. The revelation of the corruption and the deliberate fraud proved fatal for both the company, Enron as well as for Arthur Andersen. The company was compelled to declare itself to be a bankrupt and the subsistence of the ace auditing firm came to an end with the exposure of this scandal (Cunningham & Harris, 2006). Difference of Interest in the Auditing Profession It has been already mentioned earlier that corruption is considered to be a result of difference of interest between the clients and the auditors. However, it requires to be mentioned in this context that there could be various kinds of differences of interest in the profession of auditing. A proper analysis of the Enron case would assist in providing a lucid understanding of this fact. The b usiness model of Enron was stated to be quite complicated as it involved a broad range of products from trading functions, physical assets as well as going beyond the national borders. All these factors extended the boundaries of accounting. Enron took the opportunity of exploiting these accounting boundaries to the maximum in controlling its revenues along with its balance sheet so as to depict a favourable performance scenario. However, in this case two matters emerged out to be extremely problematic for the company. The company’s transactions related to trading engaged complicated contracts which involved extended time period. The form of accounting followed by the company compelled the management of the company to predict its future prices related to the energy operations along with the rates of interest. It was also found that the company depended broadly on the financial dealings that were considered to be quite controlled and engaged in developing or creating ‘sp ecial purpose entities’. These particular dealings involved sharing the possession of particular flows of cash as well as risks with lenders as well as investors from outside. The

Case Study Phase 1 Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Phase 1 - Case Study Example In terms of business and management, the possibility of an investment’s actual return usually differs from the expected and risks include the probabilities of losing part of or the entire original investment. On the other hand, risk assessment involves determining both quantitative and qualitative risks associated with a situation and recognizing threats (Hussain, 2013). A risk assessment of quantitative nature needs calculations of two aspects of risk including the degree of the possible loss and the possibility that the loss take place. Additionally, acceptable risk is the risk that may be understood as a consequence of the cost or difficulty in the implementation of an efficient countermeasure for the related vulnerability that surpasses the expected loss. Apple is an international company whose head office is in California, that is involved in designing, developing and selling consumer electronics (Young, 2009). Even though Apple develops its own products and comes up with the software which is run on its devices, it manufactured and assembles its devices through outsourcing operations. Since the company has a heavy dependence on its partners on the delivery of the final product, it is faced with the threat of not having the full ability to control its supply operation. Apple also has a heavy dependence on numerous other organizations to develop components that constitute its final products. Even though this kind of partnerships is advantageous in the production of high quality devices, they also underscore the technological dependency of Apple on external companies. Additionally, any form of disruption suffered by the companies, which manufacture its components will directly influence the ability of Apple to produce products for the market on a timely basis. Regardless of the fact that this form of partnerships are advantageous in the production of devices of superior quality, they underscore the

In short, the Chinese folk art bits and pieces can be integrated into the animation design, make Chinese animation reached its peak in development, the task of our contemporary art is to our young folk art and animation integrate, will carry forward our animation . Our folk art to express irony or sometimes praised and so emotional, but also in the shape of the use of certain hyperbole, using a variety of similar shape to express the mood, such as animation Monkey, Pig, us, God of the land, etc., have the shape of a certain exaggeration, but they have certain meanings on some feudal society reflects the dissatisfaction of some of the savior reflects the desire and longing like. In the creative process designs of cartoon characters in the whole animation, it should be fully absorbed the cultural characteristics of folk art and aesthetics. Of course, the image of folk art in the animation design is not static it should be to dig deeper spirit of our national culture, with the modified animation modeling language, the spirit of the times and integrate contemporary aesthetic concepts, creating more artistic charm of the animated image. Aldo Leopolds A Sand County Almanac Essay -- Aldo Leopold Sand County

Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac Although Leopold’s love of great expanses of wilderness is readily apparent, his book does not cry out in defense of particular tracts of land about to go under the axe or plow, but rather deals with the minutiae, the details, of often unnoticed plants and animals, all the little things that, in our ignorance, we have left out of our managed acreages but which must be present to add up to balanced ecosystems and a sense of quality and wholeness in the landscape. Part I of A Sand County Almanac is devoted to the details of a single piece of land: Leopold’s 120-acre farmed-out farmstead in central Wisconsin, abandoned as a farm years before because of the poor soil from which the "sand counties" took their nickname. It was at this weekend retreat, Leopold says, "that we try to rebuild, with shovel and axe, what we are losing elsewhere". Month by month, Leopold leads the reader through the progression of the seasons with descriptions of such things as skunk tracks, mouse economics, the songs, habits, and attitudes of dozens of bird species, cycles of high water in the river, the timely appearance and blooming of several plants, and the joys of cutting one’s own firewood. In Part II of A Sand County Almanac, titled "The Quality of Landscape," Leopold takes his reader away from the farm; first into the surrounding Wisconsin countryside and then even farther, on an Illinois bus ride, a visit to the Iowa of his boyhood...
